Sallys Salon
SCORE: 84
When I first started
playing Sally's Salon I was all into serving the customers, taking care
of them, and getting through an entire day. I should make a note that a
full day within this Nintendo DS game can take around fifteen minutes of
real world time. Real Arcade may be known for their internet games, but
they have broken into the DS with some of their most addictive games.
Sally's Salon has some diverse colors, especially in hair color choices
for the customers. In all of my years as a hair stylist I never had
anyone want those colors, but this is a video game after all. The
details are pretty simplistic, but people look like people. The one
exception to that rule is the artistic direction of the people. I did
not find any offensive images. The closest would be customers with angry
faces.
The music in Sally's Salon is pleasant. I have no complaints there. The
hectic pace this game takes (editor: later on) did not always fit the
music for me. I also had to deal with unhappy, impatient customers. I
understand fast service, but wish Sally's Salon taught more patience.
Equipment can be purchased like a coffee machine for example to relax
customers when the line is long.
This Nintendo DS game felt like chaos to me. Having to remember who needs to be services next can be taxing. If you are really good at managing the chaos then there is a lot of replay value to Sally's Salon. Real Arcade included ten unique salon locations, items to upgrade the salons, and employees that can be hired. Some multiplayer modes would have put this game over the top.
Sally's Salon plays as well as you can control everything going on.
The touch screen controls work the way should. I found myself getting
confused at what customers were needing what, and what I was in the
process of doing. Sally's Salon on the DS actually stressed me out more
than real live people from my days as a hair stylist. In small doses and
at the beginning I had fun with this one.
Sally's Salon teaches service, and running a small business. Diner Dash,
and Cake Mania are games that are very similar. If you enjoyed either of
those, then you will most likely enjoy Sally's Salon as well. The
addictive nature is one aspect of this game that could affect families.
Aside from that it is a pretty clean video game that children can be
left with. It will appeal to girls more than boys.
