Rubiks World

When I first saw Rubik's World at E3, I was very impressed. Someone should have thought of a video game based on the Rubik's Cube a long time ago. Millions of families have enjoyed the colored cube for years now. The Game Factory decided that this game should include a lot more than just a cube solver, which is complete brilliance. Each of the eight puzzle games included have some form of connection to the Rubik's Cube. Each of these puzzle games could easily have been released as their own single game, but since they are part of one game it is quite an impressive collection. In a lot of ways Rubik's World is the natural progression of the franchise, and it is going the right direction.

Rubik's World for the Nintendo DS looks great. The different colors are well represented, and the backgrounds are full of offsetting soft colors. All of the animations look extremely realistic. I enjoyed the artistic direction in this game. There are wholesome images in this DS video game that are used properly. I did not find any offensive images in Rubik's World at all.

I can be picky about the kind of music I like, so for me to be impressed by the music of a game is a special treat. I really liked the music that plays in Rubik's World. The special effect sounds also fit the theme of this franchise perfectly. It almost goes without saying that there are no offensive sounds in this Nintendo DS video game anywhere.

Rubik's World has months of replay value to it. There are eight different puzzle games to master, and the original Rubik's Cube itself. I can easily see families getting this DS game for Christmas and spending half a year playing Rubik's World. The Game Factory has been impressing me over recent years, and this game is no exception. Not only did they include all this content, but also included wireless download play for more than one DS to play at a time.

Rubik's World controls just the way it should. I loved moving the screen around the Rubik's Cube, and each of the puzzle games control the way they should. It did take me a minute to figure out how to rotate the tiles a certain way. My mistake was I had to get the camera just right before trying to rotate a part of the cube. The lessons that teach each of the different puzzle games are just what new players need to learn what to do.

I have to admit I am very pleased to see a game like Rubik's World on the Nintendo DS. Not only does this game improve the image of the video game industry, it also includes some light learning in the form of mathematics. I would love to see more games in this franchise, and think that The Game Factory has a real winner on their hands with Rubik's World.
