Rig Racer 2

Start your engines. In the case of Rig Racer 2 (there was a Rig Racer?) the vehicles are semi trucks. These semi trucks are racing on what looks like formula one race tracks to me. Bold Games mixed together quite an interesting array of diversity for this Nintendo Wii video game. This is also a value priced title which means it is selling for $20.00 US Dollars brand new. I have seen Rig Racer 2 on the shelf at Wal-Mart along with some other titles from Bold Games. I am keeping the price in mind as I am reviewing Rig Racer 2 for the Nintendo Wii.

There are a lot of nice bright, and beautiful colors used in the pallet of Rig Racer 2. The details are a disappointment to me though. This is certainly not the finest graphics on the Wii, in fact there are some Gamecube titles that look better. The trucks can get damaged by running into each other, walls, trees, etc. I had a few of my semis on fire. The damage is aesthetic only as it did not effect my racing skills. The camera behaves nicely except when swapping between backing up, and driving forward. I would keep running into the same obstacle.

The sounds were also a bit of a disappointment for me as well. The music was nice, however the special effect sounds were lacking. The semi engine revs at the same level all the time while the gas pedal is being depressed. The horn honking was something that broke up the pace. Do not expect an announcers in Rig Racer 2.

There are a few different races to participate in, but many of them are so difficult due to the game play issue few will have the patience to see them all. There are a few trucks to unlock, but they felt the same to me.

I lost track of how many times I got stuck on trees in Rig Racer 2. These trees look like they would easily be run over by the vehicle. The result would be backing up into traffic, and almost always winding up in last place. The Wii Remote controls work the way they should. An alternative control method would have been appreciated by this reviewer. I found this game frustrated me.

Rig Racer 2 is pretty safe for the family. The damage done to the vehicles is the only thing that may bother some families. I like the idea behind Rig Racer 2, but the implementation needs some work. I hope for those improvements in Rig Racer 3.
