Pipe Mania

Any video game based on plumbers better be pretty darn good, after all Mario and Luigi are plumbers. I am surprised that Nintendo has not trademarked plumbing in video games, since they seem to try and trademark just about everything else. Pipe Mania focuses on the pipes, and doing actual plumbing. At least I think this Playstation Portable (PSP) game is closer to the plumbing profession than any Super Mario Bros. game. The goal is to get the liquid from point A to point B in as many pipe lines as possible. Yeah something does seem wrong with that sentence, but it is how Pipe Mania is played.

This PSP game contains bright and colorful graphics in most areas. The background graphics can be a bit dull. Certain enemies try and stop the player by attacking the pipes. Repair them quick enough, and you avoid spillage. That is the most violent this game gets.

The music in this PSP game did not impress me. I know others at Family Friendly Gaming get into the tunes, but not me. The gurgling special effect sounds also were a little uncomfortable sounding in my kitchen. The plus side is I did not find any offensive sounds in Pipe Mania.

Puzzle games almost always have a lot of replay value, unless they are horrible. Pipe Mania is cool, and I found a fastidious amount of replay value. Empire Interactive made sure the developer included a lot of unlockable content. The different modes, and movies are acceptable. If you have a PSP, and are looking for a family friendly game, then check out Pipe Mania.

There is an intelligent design to the controls, and almost every level. I like how Pipe Mania progressively gets more difficult. Too many puzzle games are too easy all the way, or have a point where the player hits a cliff. Pipe Mania has the right balance that is so very important. I had fun playing Pipe Mania for the Playstation Portable.
I like the story in Pipe Mania. The player is helping fix the plumbing for those all around the fantasy world. Concentration, dedication, and pattern recognition are also taught. The selectable female character is showing off her midriff, which is worth a mention. I will be recommending Pipe Mania to friends of mine which include a pastor.
