Pipe Mania
SCORE: 84
Pipe Mania on the Playstation 2 (PS2) is a real treasure to play and review. Players get to take on the role of a plumber trying to fix the problems in various worlds. There are also mean characters who try to stop the player by attacking there pipes. No worries as it is simple to fix them. The rotating tiles (changing every single second) are quite a fascinating part of Pipe Mania. Liquids are not the only thing transported as things like trains also make their way along what the player builds. A little tip for ya'll - do not be in a hurry to complete most levels. The more pipeline the liquid flows through the higher the points. Get enough points and you can get gold stars. I like getting gold stars personally.
The graphics in Pipe Mania are crisp, clean, and clear. I really like the colors used, and the background images are spectacular. The animation is okay, although I would have personally preferred a little bit better. If you look at the cover box art, you can see how the main female character is dressed. I did not find this sexual personally, but want to bring it to your attention.
Pipe Mania has sweet sounds. I loved the music in this Playstation 2 video game. Empire Interactive made sure this game bubbled along in the audio department (horrible pun was by intent).I like how the characters are working to help others especially dispose of their sewage problems. I did not hear (or read) any offensive sounds (or text) while playing Pipe Mania.
Pipe Mania technically is a puzzle game. To me though this PS2 game
is so much more. The storyline included, along with the timer makes this
game feel larger. The unlockable content, modes, etc. add a lot of
replay value to Pipe Mania as well. If you are looking for a safe for
the entire family video game on the
PS2 then purchase Pipe Mania.
Controls are important to any video game, and Pipe Mania does a good job. There were times though that I was trying to quickly move around the board and I would get lost. The sounds made when the cursor was over certain obstacles is a nice touch. There is a definite intelligent design to the boards, and how the pipes come out. I had a lot of fun playing through Pipe Mania on the PS2.
The family friendly market continues to grow, and FFG is happy to
shine the light of coverage of games like Pipe Mania for the PS2. I
would love to see a sequel to this game, maybe on the PS3, Xbox 360, and
Nintendo Wii.
