Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast

The ESRB bestowed an ‘E’ for Everyone rating with absolutely no descriptors for Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast. This is Outrun, the WMG knew the ESRB is asleep at the wheel again. Hopefully this review will get to you before it causes a crash in your family. This Playstation Portable disc is an interesting upgrade to the old Outrun series, and generally stays faithfully true to the series. Players must go as fast as their race car will allow in order to get to the next checkpoint. The only concern is crashing into something, and causing the vehicle to start from a much lower speed.

Graphically Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast is spectacular. Sony should be advertising the graphics on the PSP, because they can do some awesome things. There are a lot of vibrant colors in this game. The different models of the vehicles are done in a very professional manner. Certain modes require the player to crash into other vehicles to get a higher grade, and the violence of it made the WMG cringe. There is also sexual content as most of the female characters are dressed in a manner to entice men into the slavery of lust.

The audio department of Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast is another area that the ESRB forgot to use their turn signal. The comments by the “girlfriend” of the driver (editor: the male player) has certain comments that really seems like sexual innuendo to the WMG. These sounds are always crisp and clear. The only way to really avoid this kind of sexualizing is to turn the volume off. There are also some questionable lyrics in some of the songs that can be chosen to play while racing.

Sega included quite a few different modes, vehicles, and companions to ride with the player. There is also a fair amount of selectable music - which really does not range a whole lot though. This game can be picked up for under twenty US Dollars, but the sound and graphical problems make this game lose a financial spending recommendation.

Most of the time Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast controls like a dream. Taking certain corners quickly (via the power slide) does not always work though. Since this is more of an arcade racer it is not a big issue, but certainly one that leads to problems while playing the game. The layout of the controls also works nicely.

Outrun has always been about breaking the laws of the road getting to the destination as fast as possible. No punishment is incurred for crashing into other drivers, and some modes encourage it. Women are shown as sex things for those who drive fast, and they encourage bad behavior in the player. This series needs a make over.
