One Piece Unlimited Adventure

One Piece Unlimited Adventure follows the exploits of a pirate crew that anime fans will be familiar with. The cel shading used in the visuals fit the anime targeted at the older members of the family. The game world is in a 3D format that is actually impressive in size. Enemies re-spawn which is actually needed since they will sometimes drop items that are needed to open new areas or as ingredients in some item creation (editor: which also is used to open new areas). Plenty of characters are playable, but they must be leveled up separately.

Just because One Piece Unlimited Adventure is a cartoon please do not think it is for children. The way the women dress is scandalous. The violence is present as well, but the enemies will vanish after falling down. The graphical style only feels out of touch in a few places - meaning it works the majority of the time. The special effects are awesome, and really make this Wii game stand out. There are also plenty of bright and colorful images in this game. I just love the tropical island setting.

The ESRB hit the nail on the head with the language descriptor. There are inappropriate jokes, and plenty of unwelcome words found within this game. The music is cool though, and that always helps a game out.

I was amazed at how many different unlockables that One Piece Unlimited Adventure includes. There are plenty of modes, features, and playable characters to keep fans of the show entertained. If you are a fan of the show, and can overlook the enticement to lust, and language issues then you will enjoy this game.

At first I thought this was another boring violent video game where the player trashed the mindless enemies until reaching the end boss. The mysterious jewel that the player needs to feed by collecting items add some depth to this game. The fighting is pretty boring, and there are plenty of enemies that look similar. However the item collection keeps it fresh.

I do not think the mysterious jewel is occultic, but it does need items collected (editor: not souls or anything like that) to power it up for use. It is also used only in certain areas. The language, and enticement to lust issues are troubling to me. As an adult in my family I really have no interest in such content and would like it removed in sequels.
