Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 on the Sony Playstation Portable. This ‘T’ for Teen rated video game (by the ESRB) revolves around the Naruto universe when a ghost tower appears in town and starts sapping the life out of everyone. The ninjas decide to go inside and release seals that will make it go away. Although this is a fighting game, Namco Bandai included quite a few choices in what rooms the player will play while climbing the tower. These choices come in the form of different mini games like running up a tree (and avoiding the branches), or playing a slot machine.

The cel shading graphical style works on some levels, and looks a little off on others. There are some bright and colorful images in Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2, and some dark ones. There is also a fair amount of violence, but some of it can be avoided. A few female characters dress in an enticement to lust manner. Fewer than other Naruto video games we have reviewed here at Family Friendly Gaming.

I really enjoyed the voice acting in Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2. There are a few questionable words used here or there in this PSP video game. The music is set in the eastern theme that fits this game quite nicely. The ‘Yo’ works well in this game.

If you are a Naruto fan and have a Playstation Portable then this game should have a lot of replay value. There are plenty of hidden items, modes, and characters.

Each of the mini games controls well, and the fighting action is varied enough to keep most fighting fans interested. There is an addictive quality to Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 that is hard to put my finger on. Quickly being able to complete a floor may have something to do with it. I had a lot of fun picking my own adventure by selecting what to do. I even found easy ways to do away with the Battle scrolls (BA) in order to have a less violent game.

I strongly urge parents to obey the ESRB rating system as a minimum. Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2 has some interesting aspects especially getting to choose ones own path. The whole ghost concept is taught from an eastern perspective so no regionalization there. Redemption is the main story theme.
