Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3

The whole ninja scene has changed drastically since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles of the 1980’s. The big ninja cartoon (editor:anime), toy line, and video game series revolves around Naruto. A celebration is held between two clans that involves fighting each other to acquire enough purple gems to progress to the next level. Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 includes many of the characters from the cartoon, along with voice acting from show. Naruto has some nine tailed fox spirit inside him, which may have something to do with why he is so impatient. This Playstation 2 (PS2) video game earns its ‘T’ rating from the ESRB (editor: bottom of the page has the long list of problems).

The cel shaded graphical style is used in Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 is colorful, however it lacks in details. The village looks bland, and is pretty small in this reviewers opinion. Many of the buildings that can be entered only contain one little room the player can interactive with. There is a lot of violence in this game, along with some occasional blood (nothing like Mortal Kombat though). There are also female characters dressed in a way that entices lust.

The music is nice in Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3, and fits the theme of this PS2 video game. The voice acting in Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 also fits. The down side is this Playstation 2 video game has some language issues that are really not needed at all. It detracts from the story, and the game play leaving a sour taste in the players mouth.

There are a fair amount of secrets to be found within Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3. I really liked all of the purchasable content. Earn money from the fights to buy stuff that I could go look at, watch, listen to, etc. Naruto fans will eat this game up.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 is a pretty simple fighting game. There are powered up attacks that can be done, but really they are not needed. Thankfully they are easy to pull off, so no degree in finger twisting is needed. Some of quests in Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3 are difficult to figure out. The solution I found was to run around talk to everyone until it opened the way. Not the most pleasant experience in terms of enjoyment.

I wish Naruto had a better control over his anger, because he was constantly chasing after someone in anger. I suppose this is true to the cartoon, which means Bandai Namco was keeping it true to the source. These ninjas are out in the open fighting all the time. My image of a ninja is one in the shadows that rarely comes out.
