Naruto Ninja Destiny

Naruto Ninja Destiny is an interesting fighting game on the Nintendo DS. In a lot of ways this ‘T’ for Teen rated video game pushes the Nintendo DS to its limits. This video game is based on the Naruto anime which is almost as popular as Family Friendly Gaming. All joking aside this cartoon (yeah, yeah anime) is based in a ninja universe where a lot of fighting goes on. One thing Naruto Ninja Destiny does well is the counter system. Players can counter a counter which can really turn the tables during a fight.

Naruto Ninja Destiny does some semi 3D fighting action between different ninjas from the television show. Thankfully the game keeps the players facing each other even when they are circling around to avoid a hit. The main theme of this game is punching, kicking, and using combinations. The bulk of the imagery is from the eastern world, which is where the anime is based.

The WMG found the music to fit the theme of this game, and it enhances the game. The punching and kicking sounds did not offend, plus they give a way to tell a successful hit from one that was blocked. The text of the game did not make a lot of sense, but then the WMG does not follow the show. There is some dialogue referencing revenge and wanting to kill certain characters.

There are some characters to unlock if you wind up liking the game play aspects of Naruto Ninja Destiny. There are not a lot of modes, however the wireless game play is certainly a bonus. The WMG is unclear why Wi-Fi was not included since there are plenty of Naruto fans around the world.

Some of the WMG’s esteem colleagues may disagree but the fighting system in Naruto Ninja Destiny has some strategic implications (editor: especially when dealing with fighting games on the Nintendo DS only). The quick button counter to immediately get behind an opponent (especially while being attacked) adds some variety to this game. The rest of the fighting action is punching and kicking to deplete their health to nothing. The violence does get boring after a few matches, and the lack of a save while in story mode is a little frustrating.

The main lesson in this game is to get them before they get you. Do not expect to hear any of the characters embracing the teaching of turning the other cheek. There is a gem in Naruto Ninja Destiny as a character vows to work hard, and protect his friends.
