Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase

Nancy Drew video games have become a specialty of mine over recent years. I enjoy them as much as a good novel. THQ graced Family Friendly Gaming with an early copy of Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase for the Nintendo DS. I dug right into this game, and was very impressed with the control scheme the developer decided to use. The almost always touch screen controls add a lot of realism to this mystery adventure video game. How many Nancy Dew games have gone wrong?

Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase has nice graphics where a lot of attention to detail was given to just about everything. The people look realistic, and so do all the different places, and items in the game. There is not a lot of animations in Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase for the Nintendo DS, but that is a minor issue (editor: which probably has more to do with the limitations of the machine). The characters dress appropriately, and are generally pleasant to one another. I did not find any offensive images while playing this game.

The music in Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase is okay. There are some erie sounds found within this game that fit the mystery theme perfectly. Even though this game is rated ‘E’ for Everyone I would pay attention to what age you give this game to. Make sure they can handle things that could frighten them (like a shadow seen in a room from the outside).

The length of the mystery in Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase will keep most girls busy for a couple of weeks. After that, it really becomes a game for someone else to try. Think about reading a mystery novel. The same applies to this DS game. I think it is worth the money for those that like to solve puzzles, and play a story.

Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase really shines in the game play section. Touching the screen to find where to walk, pick up, investigate, and talk is pure genius. This Nintendo DS video game feels a lot like the Personal Computer (PC) versions with the addition of the touch screen. I had a lot of fun investigating the environment, and only wished it was larger. My bonnet goes off to THQ for the controls in Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase.

This is the kind of a video game that I would love to see sequels to. Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase is good clean fun that everyone in the family can enjoy. Now that I am done with the game, my hubby has found it to be a lot of fun as well. Nancy Drew The Hidden Staircase is one of the good ones on the market that teaches attention to detail, and following instructions.
