NHL 2K9

NHL 2K9 is on the Nintendo Wii thanks to 2K Sports. This is one impressive hockey video game with a couple of minor issues. Those two issues are fighting ( a lot of hockey games like to include that ), and the lyrics to a lot of the music. Thankfully that music can be turned off in a couple of different ways. The use of the Wii Remote to play NHL 2K9 is one of the aspects of this game that makes it so impressive. So without any more introduction lets get to the play by play action of my review.

NHL 2K9 looks really nice on the Wii. In fact it looks a lot better than I was expecting it to. 2K Sports put a lot of effort into the visual presentation and it shows. As I previously mentioned there is fighting involved, so this Wii game earns its E10+ rating. I am the kind of a player who plays clean and avoids the fisticuffs. The team intros in NHL 2K9 are fantastic, and made me feel like I was at a hockey rink.

The sounds are something that took me along time to weigh out. The announcers are really good with their comments, yet the music was a problem for me. I did find where each song can be turned off, and where the entire music being played can be silenced as well. I have heard of a few of the bands included in NHL 2K9, but would never listen to them. I am a lot more forgiving on games that let the player turn songs that offend them off. Some Newsboys would fit hockey action in my opinion.

NHL 2K9 has a ton of customization to it. I was amazed at all the of the aspects of this game that can be adjusted. How tough the goalies are to how loud the announcers are. If you are into sports games, hockey especially then NHL 2K9 is one to check out. This is one of the best hockey games on the Wii to date.

The controls are on the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. At first they can be intimidating however I was able to pick it up pretty quickly. If an old timer like me can do that, then you should be able to as well. I had fun playing NHL 2K9 on the Wii.

2K Sports is on the right track with NHL 2K9. I would like to see sequels to this franchise. The intelligent design to the controls make this one interesting video game play experience. I did not notice an option to take fighting out, but that would also be good, as well as much friendlier (family friendly) music.
