Monster Trux Offroad

No video game developer should use the word Offroad in a video game title unless the game has no path whatsoever. The WMG had to get that out of the way first. Monster Trux Offroad is a low priced Wii title (editor: twenty dollars in America) that has the player driving a monster truck in some nice racing action. Bold Games has stepped into the casual gaming environment that has taken hold of the gaming industry and this is one of their better titles in the WMG’s opinion.

Graphically Monster Trux Offroad is okay. There are some nice colors in the day time races, but it gets dark on the night time races. The camera was good except when going up hills. The WMG had no idea which way to turn until face first into a wall. The trucks can catch fire, and explode when damaged too greatly. The monster trucks also can bump into one another, knock each other off the track, etc. One of the vehicles is a dump truck, how cool is that?

The WMG is not really impressed with the music in Monster Trux Offroad for the Wii. There is no offensive sounds, but there are not enough sounds. Start your engines is the same in this game as it is in the other racers from Bold Games that the WMG tested. A real roar of the engines was needed to bring this game to epic proportions.

There is some replay in Monster Trux Offroad if the player chooses to play with all the different modes, and difficulties. The WMG’s biggest gripes against Monster Trux Offroad is how few tracks there are, and how easily they are beaten. The WMG beat this game in an hour for the single racing mode on the easiest setting.

At first the WMG had some serious issues with the controls in Monster Trux Offroad. It only took a couple of races to get the feel. Sadly one frustration exists in Monster Trux Offroad - stuck facing a wall. It is way to easy to get stuck facing a wall, and having to back into traffic. The WMG has tried the other Bold Games racers and Monster Trux Offroad controls the best. Going from first to last is as easy as going from last to first.

There is light violence in Monster Trux Offroad as the monster trucks can smash into one another. This is not the main game play mechanic but present. The WMG would like to see a sequel to this Wii video game especially if more tracks are added.
