Metroid Prime Pinball

Before I was born pinball used to be a really big thing. In fact pinball was the arcade machine of choice long before video games were invented. Sort of like video killing the radio star, pinball has been decimated thanks to the video game industry. Kids no longer want to just score points, and watch a ball bounce around. They would rather save the princess, while never having to get off the couch.

The visual aspects of Metroid Prime Pinball are pretty dark, with some bright colors standing way out. It does go along pretty well with the graphical styled used on the Gamecube Metroid Prime video games. There is less violence in this game, compared to the Gamecube versions as well. Samus does stand up, and shoot at enemies during certain portions of the game, and can be used as a cannon ball (editor: of sorts) to take out other enemies. The artistic style is pretty metallic, outer space, other planets that sort of thing. Once enemies are defeated, they vanish, so thankfully no dead bodies are left laying around. I did find some of the graphics to be a bit bland for my taste.

The depressing, and moody music from the Gamecube versions has been faithfully reproduced. Pinball sounds have been included to try and make a good mixture of the two. I found some of the explosion sounds to be a little annoying. The sounds are crisp, and clear. I did not run across in profanity while I was playing Metroid Prime Pinball.

If you are into pinball video games on the Nintendo DS, then there are enough different levels to keep you interested. Hardcore Metroid fans should steer clear of Metroid Prime Pinball though. This title is a really niche one that the majority of Americans will have little interest in spending their money on. Wireless connectivity is included so more than one person at a time can play this game.

The layout of the controls feel really weird to me. The controls work perfectly though. The design of the different pinball tables, felt way too similar to me though. I had some fun playing this game for a short time. The shooting action where Samus stands up was a little strange (controls were bad), and I preferred the pinball action.

The storyline is pretty nonexistent in Metroid Prime Pinball. Wanton destruction seems to be the main goal of this game. Kill as many enemies as possible, and score as many points as possible. Nintendo needs to chalk up this game as a mistake, and not make any more sequels.
