M & M's Adventure

MandMs Adventure

M&M's Adventure on the Nintendo DS is a Super Mario 64 clone. I have never had a problem with clones, especially if they are good. The green candies get released all over the factory when an accident happens. This event unravels right before Red, Yellow, and Green are about to go on a much deserved Christmas vacation. Before you can go and enjoy Christmas you need to find all the green candies.

The Super Mario 64 DS graphics disappointed me. The Nintendo DS can not seem to handle the full 3D graphics. M&M's Adventure is the same case. The graphics look fine from a little distance, but if you zoom in (by getting close to a corner and rotating the camera) it leaves a lot to be desired. With all of that said the graphics are bright and colorful in a lot of spots, and generally safe for the family. There is some enemies that can hurt the candies, but those animations were limited.

M&M's Adventure has some great special effect sounds in it. I loved the sounds that came out when I would do certain things. The music is adequate in this Nintendo DS title as well. The different characters (Red, Green, and Yellow) each have specific attitudes that I was not too thrilled about. The Yellow character for example is lazy (editor: at first), and Green likes to be a little seductive.

There are 120 stars to collect, oh wait my mistake. There are 120 green M&M's to collect. Fill that candy jar (editor: why it would be in that place in a factory makes little logical sense) to be able to leave the factory. Money is also a collectible item in M&M's Adventure, as well as seeing all of the levels. This DS game can keep gamers busy for weeks, as long as the controls are not an issue.

Our awesome editor in chief loves segways, so this brings us to the controls. The camera rotation is a welcome feature, but the lack of an immediate camera rotation behind the character did cause me some discomfort. There are also times I had the camera right, and would move my character only to have the camera move some too. I never fought the camera, but the controls did not always work with me. The levels are generally safe in their symmetry. I did have some fun playing M&M's Adventure.

M&M's Adventure is pretty safe for the family, and a decent little Nintendo DS game. I found a few minor issues with this game. I do think Zoo Games has a great foundation for a franchise that could be exceptional with some improvements. In other words I am beating around that bush saying I would like to see a sequel. Cleaning up a mess is the main lesson I came away from playing M&M's Adventure.
