Lumines Live

One of these days the ESRB is going to be calling the WMG back, and apologizing for their slacking off in their rating of so many video games. Until that blessed day arrives, the WMG and the rest of us reviewers at Family Friendly Gaming will weed out the wheat from the chaff. Lumines Live has some problems with it, and these problems were completely ignored by the ESRB. There is content as one of the pictures on this magazine page shows of women being used as sexual objects. There are also other images within this game that are of an eastern religious nature (editor: how many other gaming magazines or websites will educate you to that little tidbit). There are also a lot of music, and certain lyrics can easily be found to be offensive.

As mentioned in the previous paragraph there are inappropriate pictures of women, and eastern religious imagery. Lumines Live will be paraded out as a game safe for the entire family. The WMG would rather let you know all of the content, so if are offended by such content - you have been duly warned. Most of the graphics are bright and colorful, however some of it can cause visual confusion due to being too bright. The WMG showed some of the graphics to others and they also had a problem with them.

The techno sounds add to the visual confusion of some of the levels. There are some occasional lyrical problems with some of the songs. But this is the kind of content the world defines as “family friendly,” not the kind of content that God defines as family friendly. If techno is your kind of thing, then you will like the music.

If two colored puzzle action is up your alley then Lumines Live can be replayed a lot. Microsoft is even allowing a free demo download so ya’ll can try it before ya’ll buy it. Lumines Live can be worth the money as long as you are aware of the objectionable content found within the game. There are not a lot of extras to uncover, but there are plenty of different game modes accessible right from the beginning.

Lumines Live has some pretty simple game play. The fact that this game was originally designed for the Playstation Portable (PSP) shows. The rectangle shape of the game play area really does not work well (as Paul mentioned in the PSP review). The controls handle well though, but the strategy element does not seem very deep anymore, especially after playing other puzzle games.

The WMG really wishes that Q Entertainment had made more improvements to the content of this game. There is a definite improvement from Lumines II, but certainly not enough. The Lumines franchise also needs a shot in the arm (editor: so to speak) to find some ways to improve upon the level design, and graphical issues. Definitely try before even considering a buy.
