Lego Star Wars

When I got Lego Star Wars, I expected that it was going to be a game that would be intended mainly for children. Instead, it is a game that anyone in the family can enjoy and get a fulfilling experience out of, no matter what their age. Everything about this game is enjoyable and easy to play due to the simple controls and straightforward gameplay.

The graphics in the game are very bright, colorful and easy to look at. The characters are designed very creatively and you will easily recognize all of your favorite Star Wars personalities, even in their Lego form. Violence in the game is limited to Lego characters breaking into individual Lego pieces when defeated. The characters use lightsabers and blasters as weapons but due to the game’s cartoon visual style, it does not stand out as overly violent.

Even though the game is recreated in Lego style, the music is the same as what you hear in the movies the game is based on. Every score of music and sound effect is taken directly from the source material and is very enjoyable to listen to. One of the strongest areas of the game is the extras available in the game. As you progress through the game, there are many secrets that you can attempt to find in each level. Once you beat the individual levels, you can replay the levels using any of the characters that you have unlocked and try to find more extras and unlockables. If you want to find everything in the game, you will be replaying the levels many times over. Also, the game is very enjoyable for two players to play together so family play is highly encouraged.

Gameplay in the game is very simple and straightforward so it is easy for anyone to pick up and play. As I played the game, I had no trouble completing any of the tasks since the controls were very easy to learn. The one area of the game that I have a small complaint about is the camera. At times, it was difficult to determine where I was on the screen, especially when needing to attempt jumps from one platform to another. For the most part though, the camera only become an issue when I was in areas where I was trying to unlock secrets so it may not be a problem for all players.

I would rate this game very well for family friendliness. As stated before, the violence in the game is very mild and should not cause any concern. The story of star wars is done in a lighthearted, almost comedic way so there is nothing that is going to be too much for a younger player to handle. This game is highly recommended and I think anyone in the family can find something to enjoy about this game.
