Kawasaki Quad Bikes

Bold Games has recently burst onto the Nintendo Wii scene with quite a few family friendly looking video game titles. These titles are also economically priced at twenty US Dollars per game brand spanking new. I was excited to get on a virtual Quad Bike, and get into some fun off road racing action. I thought I had packed everything I would need, but forgot the little motion sickness bag.

Kawasaki Quad Bikes has some really neat usage of colors throughout the various different racing areas. The details are okay, but I felt they could have been better. This title is bargain priced so I would not complain about the details. My main complaint comes with the camera. It stays exactly behind the player at all times. When I went driving up on what looked like a wall to the right (or left) the camera turned at an angle. When I would get back on solid ground it would jolt me back into a normal view. There is a first person perspective, but that is what the wheels see. My head is still spinning while I write this review.

I really enjoyed the music in Kawasaki Quad Bikes. It has a nice feel to it that led to a feeling of excitement. Bold Games is also very encouraging with the comments. I would get fourth place (editor: out of four) quite often, and the game would tell me: “Good Job.” It was not sarcastic either. So that makes points in my book. The motor sounds are pretty consistent and did lag sometimes, but that is a minor issue.

There are a fair amount of levels to unlock, along with some different bikes. The problem is the bikes are about the same in game play. The camera is the biggest problem, followed by the control issues. If you can get by both of those then this is worth the money. I however feel there should have been some more time spent in testing.

The controls in Kawasaki Quad Bikes are based on holding the Wii Remote sideways. The same way Excite Truck controls, however Kawasaki Quad Bikes is extremely touchy. I found myself running up walls, getting stuck behind obstacles, and other such problems.

Kawasaki Quad Bikes is safe for the entire family, and it has some things going for it. I really feel like this Wii video game is a good foundation that can be built upon. A few improvements here and there could make this an upper tier racer, especially at the $20.00 price tag.
