Iron Man

Iron Man is making it to almost every current video game console (editor: including the hand helds). The Xbox 360 version was played for this particular review. Players get to play Tony Stark as he becomes Iron Man. Expect the video game to mirror the movie in many aspects. Tony Stark is rude, crash, bold, alcoholic, and very selfish. Events that happen in life transform him into a hero. Current Marvel comics have him in control of their universe. All for our own safety of course. It is quite a treat to be able to fly around as Iron Man in this video game. In fact any future Superman games should use this game as a model of how to fly around.

The shine of the graphics in regards to the different Iron Man armors has to be seen. A lot of attention and detail was given to this aspect of the video game. Unfortunately a lot of the levels, and enemies look the same. In fact I was a little disappointed with the lack of diversity especially in regards to the tanks. There is violence as Iron Man is required to destroy enemy defenses. The reason for this is they were once Stark technologies, and he wants to get out of the weapons business. There is also a female character dressed in a manner to entice lust.

The voice acting in Iron Man is well done. The attitude of Robert Downey Jr. is easy to pick up. He has a lot of things to say, and at times is either sexually suggestive, or uses bad language. Iron Man earns its Mild Language descriptor.

There are plenty of Iron Man armors to play around with, and extra mission objectives that can be achieved. Iron Man can be beaten in around ten hours for most players. Even on the easiest setting this can be a difficult game though.

Iron Man takes a little getting used to in the controls department. I kept confusing hover and fly the first few levels they came up. Once I got past that I had some problems figuring out where to go. When the player is too close to an objective the little hints do not appear on the screen. Destroying all the vehicles got old pretty quick, but flying around was a blast.

Iron Man is a very flawed character that learns from his many mistakes. This video game touches on that storyline, but is more about destroying the bad guys. I wish Tony Stark would listen to those that care about him a bit more often. I would have loved it if Iron Man would allow me to solve (at least some) problems without the violence.
