Hot Shots Golf Open Tee

Can someone please explain to me why a golf video game has females in bikinis? This is not only a golf game, but a hand held golf game (editor: Playstation Portable). Sure most of the characters are deformed to look cartoonish and not realistic, but the principal behind the thing bothers me. Thankfully the ESRB rated Hot Shots Golf Open Tee with an ‘E10+’ for Everyone 10 and older. The sexual content will most likely warrant a teenager and older only rating from most parents that read Family Friendly Gaming.

The graphics in Hot Shots Golf Open Tee are crisp and clear. The different shades of green on the golf courses generally distinguish themselves. There are plenty of characters in this game, unfortunately quite a few of them are dressed inappropriately. Characters will also throw tantrums when the player does not perform well. Putting is a lot of guess work due to how the graphics are represented in this arena. There are some really nice comic book style moments when the ball hits rocks for example. The winning screen images were generally pretty nice.

The music in Hot Shots Golf Open Tee is okay. I did not find myself humming any of the tunes, nor was I offended by any of them. The sounds made during the characters tantrums did make it to the level of being annoying in my personal opinion. The special effects sounds did bring something to the table to enhance the experience of playing this Playstation Portable video game.

Sony made sure there was a lot of unlockable items. The question I have is how many people want to unlock 250 different items (many of them clothing). Getting different characters, and courses will be of interest to most gamers though. Few people will find this game worth their money.

The control scheme found in Hot Shots Golf Open Tee is pretty simplistic. Press the button to start the gauge, press it a second time to end it, and a third time back at the beginning. How to gauge the exact distance can be a lot of guessing. I did accidentally get a hole in one a few times, but was never able to duplicate it. I found there was some fun in this game after leveling up the character (editor: which requires losing a couple of tournaments). The putting problems took away that fun though.

What concerns me most about Hot Shots Golf Open Tee is it is being targeted towards children. Showing women parading around in a bikini while playing golf teachings nothing nice. If Sony could clean up the various issues with this game then sequels would be warmly welcomed here at Family Friendly Gaming.
