Hello Kitty Big City Dreams

I have played quite a few exceptional Hello Kitty video games so my standards are pretty high for this franchise. Hello Kitty Big City Dreams on the Nintendo DS was a let down for me. The first problem I ran into was the details in the graphics. Then I ran into some problems with the touch screen controls. Not everything in Hello Kitty Big City Dreams is bad though, and we will get to that shortly.

To give Hello Kitty Big City Dreams its due there are plenty of pretty colors. I adore the pinks, and purples that are found all over in this DS game. I did not find any offensive images while playing this game either. The three 3D areas of the city are smaller than Animal Crossing Wild World, and do not look as good.  Each mini game looks fine though, so a bit of a disconnect.

The music in Hello Kitty Big City Dreams is very catchy and easily gets stuck in the brain. I did not hear any offensive sounds in this game. Kitty helps her friends all over and that earns friendship points. Those points are used to purchase a wide array of items, and a better room.

Speaking of all these different items. Hello Kitty Big City Dreams includes a lot of different items, and mini games. There is definitely some replay value to this game. If the graphics, and control issues do not bother you, then this is a worthy purchase. I found the mini games to be fun, especially the mouse and cheese one.

I learned to cope with the graphics in Hello Kitty Big City Dreams. The controls are another story. I found a few quirks in the controls of this game. I would double touch a character standing right in front of me, and nothing would happen. So I would walk around behind them, or to their side try again - and it worked. I also found myself stuck in a few areas not able to walk through where it visually looked like I could. The elevator button required multiple taps each time to get working. These are minor quibbles, but piled up to a frustrating game play experience for me.

I absolutely adore the friendship theme of Hello Kitty Big City Dreams. Helping out friends in a wide array of chores is also an excellent lesson includes in this DS video game. Morally and ethically there is a lot of good in Hello Kitty Big City Dreams. I would love to see a sequel to this game if the two issues I had are improved.
