Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness

Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness is a vast improvement over the last Harvest Moon video game we reviewed here at Family Friendly Gaming. Players get shipwrecked on an island, and decide to settle, and make it a better place to live. Clean up the grass, rocks, flowers, etc. Plant crops, and then take care of animals. Items are put in a bin to be shipped off the island, and this gives the player money. Eventually the player can try and romance a member of the opposite sex to start a traditional family. The goddess is still present, as is the witch princess. They have much smaller roles, and that is a great step in the right direction for this series.

There are a couple of the female characters who dress in a manner that is not appropriate. The majority of them wear wonderful clothing in Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness. The graphics have a soft feel to them, and the time of the day is reflected quite nicely. The level of detail in this Nintendo DS video game is above average.

I absolutely loved the music, and special effect sounds in Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness. They fit this game great, and added a lot to the overall experience while playing this Natsume video game. The whole witch and goddess thing is the only part that bothered me. I am confused as to why this series is not regionalized for the 80% plus of Americans that self identify as Christian. The wiccan population is very small, so their getting over-represented does not make a lot of marketing sense to me.

Days play out quickly in Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness. What I mean is they are not in real time. I can play through a few days during a session, and fatigue can also make a work day shorter in Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness. There are so many different items, characters, and crops that this DS video game could easily last for months.

I love how wide open Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness is. There are so many different ways to go about building the island, that is boggles the mind. The touch only controls work great in this DS video game as well. I did find myself wanting to go back to the old controls a few times, but that is a minor quibble. I found this Nintendo DS video game to be a lot of fun that is also addictive.

Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness is a great step in the right direction. A pastor or priest along with a church would be a wonderful addition to this series. For me getting a day of rest would reinforce the wise teachings in the Holy Bible. I really like the good worth ethic that Harvest Moon DS Island of Happiness teaches, along with the traditional marriage. Farming is a tough profession that all of us need, which is another lesson.
