Happy Feet

It is rare to be able to review a Midway video game, since they usually only release anti-family video games. Since they have such a track record, I was looking for some hidden bad content. Thankfully I found no blood, gore, or lust issues; but there was a very blatant attack on those within the church. My research shows that the out of touch with reality Hollywood is the one who preached such nonsense in the film. Mumbles is a penguin who can not sing, but he can dance. All the singing penguins think his dancing is an atrocity and blames him for the lack of fish. The game makes it clear that we the humans are to blame, and we are hurting the animals. Al Gore would be so proud of the propaganda promoted in this film. In fact I kept expecting Al Gore to pop up and arrogantly make a wild claim that the discussion is over with.

Happy Feet on the DS has two kinds of levels - sliding on the belly, and touching circles on the bottom screen. Graphically they are about the same, and sadly that means leaving a lot to be desired. Since this is in penguin territory there is not a lot of colors used. The 3D graphics are also pretty blocky.

The sounds is probably where Happy Feet is going to get in the most trouble. There are some lyrics that are definitely offensive to a lot of people. The dance songs from the 60s, and 70s are from some of the worst cultural times in America, and the songs certainly show it. The special effects sounds are neat, especially when jumping through the air on the sliding levels.

Happy Feet is gonna take a hit here on the replay value. It is like having the Democrats in power, something you do not want to do again. The levels are way too similar, and really do not inspire much replay. I would say save your money for a much better DS game.

The only fault I can find with the gameplay in Happy Feet is the lack of diversity. Both kinds of levels get boring very quickly. The cut scene pictures are nice, but not much of a reward. The controls handle quite well though.

The lyrical content, and preaching environmentalism is the two main problems with Happy Feet. Aside from those problems the action of the game is very safe for members of the family. Matching circles that shrink with the circle on the screen is a nice reflexes exercise. It would have been great if there had been different shapes and/or some different kinds of levels to play within the game. I suppose you could keep the sounds off to make this a game safer for the family, but I would recommend finding a much better game.
