Diner Dash
SCORE: 92
Diner Dash for the Nintendo DS is a classic example of what video games can be, and can teach. Service with a smile is taught, and done so in an entertaining manner. Flo has to seat groups, families, etc. and do so in a fashion that they do not irritate one another. Those cel phone addicts cause complaints from others. The touch screen usage is used to handle multi-tasking of going from table to table, dropping off orders, handing out checks, picking up dishes, and putting them in the proper place.
Each of the patrons only has so much patience for each step of the process, so the player needs to be quick on their feet (editor: technically fingers) in order to juggle all of the action to the satisfaction of everyone there. The graphics are bright, colorful, and in many areas selectable (meaning the player is given the choice of what kind of tables, wall paper, etc.). Service is shown with a smile, and how exhausting it really is.
The WMG found no offensive images in this game. The sounds are decent in Diner Dash, and the music is pleasant to listen to. It was a little annoying to work my tail off in a level, and then just miss the quota and be told the service was flat. *sobs* Eidos made sure that enough modes, levels, and multiplayer to keep players busy for a nice length of time. The WMG never felt addicted to this game, but had a compulsion to want to see the next restaurant. The Nintendo DS is certainly the way to play Diner Dash. The touch screen works perfectly for this kind of a game, and it really speeds up the action. When it comes down to losing a table, the DS gives the player the advantage.
The WMG loves to see games
like this one being released, and from a developer like Eidos. Families
are treated properly in this game, and FFG appreciates that. A sequel to
this game is certainly needed especially if a multiplayer cooperative
mode is included.
