Digimon World Championship
SCORE: 64
Digimon World Championship is a different take on the Digimon franchise. If hearing Digimon does not warrant a response then let the WMG give you guys a little background. These digital monsters (Digimon) fight for the characters, digivolve (a form of evolving) into more powerful digital monsters. The players goal in this Nintendo DS video game is to become the world champion by training their Digimon to be the most dominate in the land. There are a lot of stats to keep track of, and raising one stat usually winds up dropping another one. Namco Bandai is trying to teach the players balance. Which is one of the most commendable aspects of this DS game. Players hunt wild Digimon, capture them, and train them to become part of their team. Digimon World Championship boasts over two hundred trainable Digimon.
The graphical content in Digimon World Championship is a bit of a disappointment to the WMG. The images are small in most of the game. The Digimon themselves can be difficult to distinguish between especially when they are a part of a three on three battle royale. This brings up the violence issue. Players tell each Digimon before the battle starts which kind of attack to perform. The Digimon fight it out, until one team defeats the other team.
Digimon World Championship boasts pretty average music that does not register either direction with the WMG. There were no offensive sounds, and the special effect sounds fit the them of this game. The one sound that annoyed the WMG was the email one. The whole digivolve thing will bother a lot of American families, so it worth a mention at the very least.
With so many different Digimon that can be used there is some replay value to this Nintendo DS video game. The game play issue is of a concern, so please read that before deciding whether or not to by Digimon World Championship. Part of the fun of this video game is finding what turns your current Digimon into more powerful creatures. This is not the same for each monster.
The WMG hates to be negative, but has to be honest (editor: with as much tact as possible). Digimon World Championship is boring in the game play department. Watching the Digimon run around, attack each other, and run around some more is not the WMG idea of a good time. The core of this game seems to be leveling up the Digimon. After awhile all of the monsters feel the same.
Digimon World Championship
is an interesting attempt of a DS game that does not quite work for the
WMG. Spending so much time watching these monsters fight each other is
more like watching the cartoon than playing a video game.
