Cube

There are times that I really love writing for Family Friendly Gaming. Getting to play, and review Cube from D3 Publisher on the Playstation Portable is one of those times. This fresh little PSP puzzle game takes a brand new approach to the genre, and really makes the player think in different ways. Players control a cube that can be rotated around any block it is directly connected to. The full 3D environment is used in fun, and many times thought provoking ways. Throw in mines to avoid, switches, moving platforms, moving spikes, etc. and it gets real interesting really fast.

Graphically Cube is absolutely wild. Each area has a main color that is dominate, and it can really be a trip. These colors are bold and bright. Cube does not have the best graphics on the Playstation Portable, but the powerful colors help in quickly finding things that need to be avoided. Certain items can explode into the player or other items and are used to progress through certain parts. That is the only violence in this game.

The music really fits Cube in an eclectic kind of way. I found myself reeling digging the tunes used, and would cringe whenever I got the sound effect for making a mistake (and thus losing my cube). I did not find any offensive sounds while playing Cube.

With 135 levels in this game (editor: that get progressively more difficult) this is a PSP puzzle game to take note of. Certain levels will have to be played multiple times in order to figure out the appropriate combination. Wi-Fi enables two players to interact in Cube. This game can be found for under twenty dollars, so I feel it is worth your hard earned dollars.

D3 Publisher was amazingly intelligent with their design. The entire 3D play field made this game a real blast to explore. The controls work flawlessly, and are very simple to learn. I love it when a video game makes me think in new, and exciting ways. Cube had me thinking from start to finish. In other words I found Cube to be a lot of fun to play, and believe you will as well.

Cube shows everyone out there that there can be fun, engaging, and thought provoking video games without blood, gore, and senseless violence. My hat goes off to D3 Publisher for putting this fantastic Playstation Portable video game on the market. I would love to see some sequels to Cube, and will be recommending this game to my pastor. Give Cube a try and you will thank me later.
