Code Lyoko Fall of XANA

Code Lyoko Fall of X.A.N.A. is the best Code Lyoko role playing game the RPG Master has ever played. X.A.N.A. is a nasty virus from a digital world (editor: that looks way different from ours) that tries to interject into our world. A small band of kids work to stop that from happening. They are digitally transfered into this alternate world in order to stop the virus. This version of Code Lyoko Fall of X.A.N.A. is a role playing game, and fits the series like a glove. Each of the characters has attacks they can do, and they gain experience with each defeated monster. The monsters grow stronger, and the player must level up in order to take them down. Take enough damage and a super attack (that requires a quick little mini game) will open up. Force skills are also included, which take the place of magic in most role playing games.

There are a variety of different digital worlds in Code Lyoko Fall of X.A.N.A. The one complaint the RPG Master has is a lot of each world looks the same. The Ice World, and Forest are vastly different, but most of the Ice World looks similar. There is role playing violence as a command is given and the character executes the attack. There are no occult images in this DS game, which is awesome for a RPG.

Code Lyoko Fall of X.A.N.A. has really cool music. In fact this franchise has done a great job in this department for a long time. The special effect sounds fit the theme of this game to a tee. There is some bad attitudes, and deception from certain characters in the dialogue.

The Game Factory included a nice length to Code Lyoko Fall of X.A.N.A. on the DS. There are role playing games that last longer, and there are a few that do not take as long. Plenty of secrets are hidden in different places, but most of the game is pretty linear.

Code Lyoko Fall of X.A.N.A. is another Nintendo DS video game that controls completely by the touch screen. The RPG Master has been working on adapting to this phenomenon which is becoming more common place. This felt weird at first, but really works well. Leaving a level and coming back is needed if the player wants to accumulate items for later battles. There is also not a lot of places to grind, until the player learns to go to an earlier area in an existing dungeon.

Saving the world from evil is the main theme in this game, along with helping those in need. The digital arena for a role playing game makes this one of the better RPG’s on the market for families. Sequels to this would be appreciated by this reviewer.
