Charge Base 360

At some point I became the hardware expert here at Family Friendly Gaming. It may have to do with my extensive knowledge of video game machines going back to the dawn of the industry. Or maybe I am good at analyzing machines. Whatever is the case I am pretty excited to review the Charge Base 360 for the Xbox 360. Nyko has an excellent history here at Family Friendly Gaming especially with their rechargeable units. Who doesn’t want to save money on batteries? I have always loved the ease of use of rechargeable units, so I may be a bit biased in that regard. Two of these rechargeable batteries packs are included (NiMH) that last up to twenty-five hours of gameplay. Nyko also made sure that the signal will still work so gamers can use the controller while it is charging on the station. Nice feature as long as you are not someone with a wide range of motion while playing a game on your Xbox 360.

The look of the Charge Base 360 reminds me of a roller coaster ride. The two Xbox 360 controls (or just batteries) sit in their little sections and look ready to go through the loop de loop. The lights are diverse colors letting the consumer know if the charge is complete or not. I really like the green Nyko chose for this unit. The Charge Base 360 has a sleek look to it.

The grip pads on the bottom of the Charge Base 360 mean it is designed to sit in one spot. There is no problem moving it around, and it won’t be sliding away anytime soon. The Xbox 360 controllers can be snapped in and out easily. The overall feel is smooth (with the exception of the grip pads of course).

All of our testing here at Family Friendly Gaming has been very positive of the longevity of this unit. Like most other Nyko products the unit is sturdy, which surprised me considering how small it is. The charge lasts s long time, and the ability to keep playing while it charge is a nice little feature. Two players would not be able to both do that at the same time, but rarely do both units need a recharge at the exact same moment.

Batteries have been a bane for me with the Xbox 360 for a very long time. I also do not like recharging my controllers through the cord to the unit. The reason is that loud Xbox 360 fan runs for a very long time while it charges. To me the Charge Base 360 is worth the money because I can charge my controllers without hearing that annoyingly loud fan for such a long time. The Charge Base 360 is completely silent while it charges, and that is something I appreciate especially when children are trying to sleep.

In the last paragraph I mentioned the freedom from a cord, and that is always a plus with Family Friendly Gaming. Too many people get hurt from tripping over cords in the home. Just when I think Nyko can not do anything else to impress me, they come up with a product like the Charge Base 360. I am always wondering what they will come up with next, because usually it is very intelligent.
