Cars

Cars is one of those family friendly movie gems that has proven good, clean, and wholesome fun sells really well. The Xbox 360 version is very similar to the Xbox, Gamecube, Playstation 2, and Personal Computer versions. THQ knew they were onto a good thing with the earlier console releases, and a port to the Xbox 360 was definitely needed (editor: especially considering their problems with few Xbox games working on the Xbox 360). Players get to pick up from the end of the movie, and race in the next season. Almost all of the characters from the movie are found inside this game, along with some new animated automobiles. The millions that are enjoying the home release of the DVD can also now enjoy the game on their Xbox 360 video game console.

The graphics in the Xbox 360 version of Cars is very crisp and clear. It takes a real keen eye to be able to notice where THQ had the graphics tweaked, and thankfully yours truly is one such eagle eye. The cars animated so well, that at times I thought I was watching the original movie, with the story being continued. Getting to drive around Radiator Springs, Ornament Valley, and Tailfin Pass is quite a treat indeed. Cars can be bumped into, and they generally let you know they do not appreciate it. Emotions are displayed visually quite well.

THQ took an awesome game, and ported it to the Xbox 360. The sounds are the same high quality in this version as the previous ones. The music in this game is a nice sampling from the movie, which was top notch cruising music from different American musical eras. It is pretty clear that they did not skimp on the budget for the voice acting. In fact the emotions imparted from the voice acting comes across loud and clear (like the Sarge).

If you have an Xbox 360, and have not played Cars, then this is a must buy. I will not beat around the bush, you will get your moneys worth. All of the different modes, unlockables, mini games, various cars, etc. can keep any gamer busy for quite some time. It is always nice to have a light hearted generally safe game that more than one family member can play together for bonding.

The different cars from Radiator Springs control a little differently, but Lightning controls like a dream. The layout, and design of the controls works beautifully. The design of the towns follows the movies faithfully, and there are quite a few awe inspiring moments and areas. This is a fun game to play, I only wish the story mode was a wee bit longer.

At the end of the Cars movie Lightning has matured quite a bit. This is where the player picks up the story, and gets to know a smarter, wiser, and nicer Lightning. Lightning goes on one mission to get back the stuff the delinquent Boost, Snot Rod, DJ, and Wingo have stolen from Mack. He has to bump them to get the items back. That is the worst content in this game. It is also made clear that Lightning does this to protect his friend from the shame of losing the gear. I am very pleased that THQ ported this game across, because it means a good game for the entire family is on this machine.
