Cars

Cars was one of the shining lights last year at the movie theater The WMG was jumping fer joy when the opportunity to rate Cars on the Nintendo Wii was driven the WMG’s way. Lightning McQueen, Sally, Doc Hudson, and the rest of the crew are all present and accounted for in this game.

The graphics in Cars on the Nintendo Wii is slightly better than the Gamecube version. There are some screens where obvious polish was added. There are others where little difference can be discerned. The WMG would have liked some more upgrades to the graphics. The three towns (Radiator Springs, Ornament Valley, and Tailfin Pass) are all fleshed out in full 3D. The WMG enjoys games that have wholesome graphics like this one.

There seems to be some additional songs in this version of Cars, and most of them are pretty good. The WMG was a little surprised to hear Mater say: “Holy Jude,” throughout one of the game levels. While it is not a profanity, it was definitely worth mentioning. The racing sounds all work well with one exception. The announcers during the races occasionally make incorrect statements. These usually come during times when multiple actions occur at (editor: or around) the same time.

THQ included a lot of replay value in this game. There is a kids sized version, and an adults sized version. The amount of unlockables is very impressive. Cars on the Nintendo Wii is worth your hard earned dollars if you have not played the previous console generation version. Multiple players can play this game at the same time.

The controls for Cars on the Nintendo Wii take a little getting used to. The Wii Remote is held sideways, and then the ends are moved up and down to simulate a steering wheel. Once the WMG was used to the controls it handles way better than any of the other versions of Cars. The WMG did find during times of frustration, irritation, and aggravation the WMG could not do the controls right at all. Once a deep breath was taken, and the controller put back in the right placement it all worked beautifully. The designs of these levels is spectacular, and the mini games are even better. The WMG had a blast playing this game, and liked this one over all over versions.

One of the best levels in Cars is getting to chase down speeders in the town. The WMG enjoyed getting to be on the right side of the law, and enforce it. It was a real joy to play and review this game. Cars is a franchise that the WMG would love to see a sequel to (THQ please create a sequel). Tractor tipping with Mater is also included for those wanting to know.
