Cake Mania Bakers Challenge

Where interesting and innovative ideas come from has shifted in recent years. Big companies would roll the dice on internal teams, or publish the rights to a game a smaller developer would make. Now-a-days we are seeing small puzzle games on the internet making their way to the handhelds, and home console units. Cake Mania Baker’s Challenge is one such successful internet video game that has made it to quite a few machines that we cover here at Family Friendly Gaming. I appreciate the grass roots campaign that this franchise has come from (editor: reminds us a lot of the honorable Tim Eyman).

Cake Mania Baker’s Challenge looks pretty good on the Playstation 2. The bright colors translate quite well, and the serving others images are captured quite well. The comic book style of telling the story looks really good on the big television set. I could not find any offensive images, and love to say that in a review.

Cake Mania Baker’s Challenge has wonderful music that add a lot to this puzzle game. The main message of bringing back the small mom and pop kind of shop resonates well here at Family Friendly Gaming. I love how willing she is to take care of others, and do a good job (editor: great ethics).

Cake Mania Baker’s Challenge includes a lot of replay value to it. There are a lot of levels, kinds of cakes, extra designs, etc. that keep players playing for weeks. The one down side is only one player can play at a time. Some cooperative mode would have been nice.

I have played other versions of this franchise, and they control better. Cake Mania Baker’s Challenge is not bad on the PS2, but when you have used a mouse and/or touch screen - playing this way just feels slow. I had fun with this Playstation 2 video game.

Cake Mania Baker’s Challenge has a teenage girl working hard in a bakery trying to restore the family name. The lesson of the little guy can win against the big chain is a wonderful one indeed. The Cake Mania franchise has done just that, and this version is additional proof of that. I would like to see more Cake Mania video games, especially with some coop play involved.
