Brain Boost Gamma Wave

I have been a big supporter of video games that teach good lessons, especially those that can improve our mental skills. So when Majesco Entertainment let Family Friendly Gaming know about Brain Boost Gamma Wave, I was very interested. My hope and prayer was that it was not some shoddy Brain Age clone. Thankfully my prayers were answered, just not in the way I had expected. Brain Boost Gamma Wave is essentially a memory game. The game helps the player improve their memory with five different kinds of mental exercises. On top of that Majesco Entertainment added a story mode where some quirky characters are seeking out the memory disk of their robotic friend. The different places they go require beating the five different mental exercises, and scoring high enough to progress. A professor type assists in the training of the player.

Brain Boost Gamma Wave has some bright and colorful graphics. The details on the face matching are better than I had expected, when considering the artistic style of the characters in the story mode. The artwork is interesting, and even though not my personal cup of tea, it did bring a smile to my face. Wholesome images are used properly in this game. I saw no offensive images in this game at all.

The sounds in Brain Boost Gamma Wave are okay. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing that was annoying. These sounds are crisp, and clear. Let us be honest though, the sounds are not what the players will be playing this game for. Due to the gameplay, it would have been nice if there had been some more sounds to let the player know when their time is close to being over when making a selection. It also would have been nice if there had been some use of the microphone, or sound memorization. I heard no offensive sounds in this game.

With four difficulty settings, a story mode, and a training mode there is a lot of replay in Brain Boost Gamma Wave. Whether this game actually improves your memory or not is an issue open for debate. Majesco Entertainment did give the players a lot of reasons to replay this game. This is the kind of game that can be played for a very long time, just a few minutes a day. In my humble opinion this game is worth your hard earned dollars, as long as you realize you are getting a memory brain game only.

Brain Boost Gamma Wave is visual, and tapping on the screen only. My main quibble with this game is having to stare at the screen for twenty test questions. It can get old even with the five different types of tests. Also if you look away for just a few seconds you will wind up guessing. The controls are all quick and responsive. I had fun playing this game.

Brain Boost Gamma Wave is safe for the entire family, and can be played by anyone in the family who has a basic reading ability (or someone that can explain the directions). I would love to see a sequel to this game especially if they flesh it out some more, and add sounds. My hat goes off to Majesco Entertainment for releasing this game.
