Brain Boost Beta Wave

I am very pleased to see games like Brain Boost Beta Wave (Nintendo DS) on store shelves. This is the kind of a video game that can improve gamers lives. Family Friendly Gaming loves to report on games that help people grow in the proper ways. The ESRB rated this game ‘E’ for Everyone with the descriptor being Edutainment. Descriptors are normally used as warnings, but in this case it assists families in realizing this game teaches good lessons.

The graphics in Brain Boost Beta Wave are okay. There are some bright and colorful graphics, and there are some bland graphics. Thankfully most of the bright graphics pop quite well off of the blander backgrounds. Pattern recognition is taught visually throughout the game. The different characters associated with this game are an odd assortment of creatures. I did not find any offensive images while playing this game.

Brain Boost Beta Wave has some okay sounds. There were no sounds that offended me, or irritated me. On the flip side the music and sounds did not inspire me, or even stay with me long. These sounds are very crisp and clear though. I heard no offensive sounds while playing this game.

Each of the mini games must be replayed, and the player must score better for each of the four levels in each world. These “tests” are replayed a lot in Brain Boost Beta Wave. Aside from that there is not a lot to unlock, or unearth in this game. Multiple saves are allowed, but only one player can play at a time. Some Wi-Fi action to compete against others would have been nice. This is a bargain priced game, so it won’t break the bank.

The touch screen controls work very nicely on Brain Boost Beta Wave. I had fun playing this game for awhile, but the repetitive nature of the tests, and having to beat all of them in each section was a bit much. The only other problem I have is the length of time to identify items in the tests. It would have been nice to be able to take my time in order to improve my concentration. These are minor issues though.

Majesco Entertainment has made a nice little start into the brain improvement genre on the Nintendo DS. Some sequels would be greatly appreciated on any system. Brain Boost Beta Wave is safe for the entire family, and one you may want to consider because it works for humans of all ages.
