Wii Sports

Nintendo has generously given every customer who bought a Wii a very special demo game (editor: technically five different games). While this game is not really meant to be “in-depth”, players can get used to using the Wii Remote, Nintendo’s special controller by making simple movements. Wii Sports includes five games. Tennis, Baseball, Golf, Bowling and Boxing as well as a training and fitness program. This was one of the first titles at E3, and Family Friendly Gaming couldn’t wait to get our hands on it! This game can be played with the hard core gamers, but is easy enough for “new comers” to the video game world. All the movements are very realistic. Time and care was taken into this, as everything is very responsive. This was a very big candidate for the Family Friendly Seal of Approval, but just missed it, because of movements children could easily imitate on each other (mainly Boxing).

The graphics of Wii Sports is not meant to show the powerhouse the Wii is. Wii Sports uses your “Mii” characters you make on the Mii channel. These are very simple designed people, but fit for your image. Even that being said, this still has very nice and crisp graphics. While I can’t say I am not impressed with a title like this, Nintendo could have made things a bit better looking. Direct movements go with yours. The characters respond in a very realistic manner, and the menus are easy to navigate. No offensive images were found while playing this game.

The sounds of Wii Sports are very smooth and friendly. The music in the bowling alley welcomes you, while playing golf has windy sounds. Boxing has the most realistic sounds, while punching and crowds screaming make it seem like you are at a real tournament. The speaker in the “Wiimote” add a lot to this experience. Tennis rackets and Baseball bats are a lot of fun listening to, as if you were playing outside. No offensive sounds were found.

This game, while as simple as it may be, provides a good work out. Even this reviewer found it relaxing just to play after a long day. This is a great family game that can be played together, and is very simple to master. While it may only be a demo to show what the “Wiimote” can do, Nintendo could really make more great games from the Sports genre. This game gives a healthy work out, so be prepared to sweat. The fatigue factor is a welcome addition to video games. Using your Miis is also a plus. Finally, ClassicTyler can do what he does best. Being ClassicTyler!

This game comes with the console, (like mentioned above) so really, it is worth playing. No worries of not finding it, right? Like mentioned above as well, this was just a tad off of getting the vaunted FFG Seal of Approval. This game is rated E for everyone with Mild Violence being the only descriptor.
