Victorious Boxers Revolution

When I first played the boxing in Wii Sports I knew how realistic a boxing game could be on this system. Wii Sports fell short in the boxing by not keeping up with my bullet punches. Victorious Boxers Revolution keeps up. On top of that XSeed Games made sure there is a deep, and emotional storyline in this game. Victorious Boxers Revolution is based on an anime cartoon series from Japan that I have just become aware of. This is a game based on boxing, so your opinions on that sport will have a lot to do with how you feel about this Nintendo Wii video game.

The graphics are a nice cel shaded blend that has a flair for shading using the darker colors. The details of the boxers, especially the muscles are very nicely done. Victorious Boxers Revolution does not pull any punches (sorry) for realistically exposing the brutality of boxing. It does not go over the top though either. Blood is included, but I had to look for it.

Victorious Boxers Revolution has some amazing sounds. The emotions expressed in the voice acting brought me to an emotional response a couple of times in the story mode. The menu, and special effects sounds are worth mentioning because they are that good. I did not catch any bad language throughout this game, and I was listening for it.

If you like boxing, and want to get a physical work out, then Victorious Boxers Revolution is a game for you. I played this game for a couple of hours each day for half a week. My shoulder blades, a wrist, and shoulder are still hurting. It is such a good work out, and the storyline was so engaging that I was willing to play hurt. More than one player can play this game at same time as well.

Victorious Boxers Revolution has some amazing control choices. The developer included so many different schemes that only a miser could not find one that works for them. The boxing action flows nicely, and the computer boxers are smart. This is one area where Victorious Boxers Revolution shines. I found this to be a fun game that rightly earns its ‘T’ for Teen rating.

The player gets to play quite a few different characters, but the original one Ippo learns to box to defend himself from bullies. He also has a rival that he is working to become stronger than, and to meet in the ring as a professional. Plenty of topics are covered in this game from honor to keeping ones word. Boxing is a violent sport, and it is your decision whether you want to allow such a game in your home. My elbow is stinging as I admit I had fun playing it.
