Turn it Around
SCORE: 89
There are days that I really love this job. One of those many days was when I started playing Turn it Around on the Nintendo DS. This is a collection of some very interesting, and fun mini games that revolve mainly around spinning the circle on the bottom screen. In a lot of ways this game reminds of the Warioware series, although the length of the mini games is longer in Turn it Around.
The graphics in Turn it Around are generally very bright and colorful. There is a lot of variety in the colors used, which is always a plus in my book. A lot of the mini games are based on video games from the past. The details on some are exceptional, whereas others leave a lot to be desired. The artwork is generally good. The one graphical problem is a woman in a bikini in one of the games.
There are some talented musicians that work for Taito (the developer). The musical score in Turn it Around really strikes a chord with me personally. It is so nice to find a game like this one where the music brings such joy. The sound effects really add a nice dimension to this quirky little game. I did not hear any offensive sounds while playing Turn it Around.
The mini games are so diverse that I am sure you will find something
in there to enjoy. Turn it Around reminds me of the older video games
where replay was about beating the high score. In my humble opinion this
game is worth the money.
Most of the mini games are simple to figure out, but a few require a
certain degree of finesse. After a little practice I became a master at
those. The controls work nicely, and the game is very forgiving of minor
mistakes. There is some definite intelligent design to the levels. The
only complaint about Turn it Around I have is it is a little on the easy
side. Majesco Entertainment also made sure there are multiple ways of
controlling the mini games - something that resonates well with me
personally.
Turn it Around is exactly the kind of video game the industry needs.
Not only is it safe for the family, it is also a blast to play. It would
be great if there were some more mini games, but what is in there has
been keeping me busy for a fair amount of time. I will be recommending
this game to my pastor, along with family and friends. Majesco needs to
release some sequels to Turn it Around - maybe even on the Nintendo Wii
(hint, hint).
