Super Princess Peach

Nintendo has a history of trying new things, and Super Princess Peach on the Nintendo DS is no exception. Princess Peach was out for a stroll when Bowser came a kidnapping. Since he was not able to get the princess, Bowser settled for Mario and Luigi. In an amazing role reversal, the damsel saves the heroes. This damsel has all kinds of distress in her lengthy adventure to save all the Toads, then Luigi, and finally Mario. One of the more interesting aspects of this game is Princess Peach's four emotional special skills. When she is angry she can burn ice, when she is sad she cries rivers, when she is happy she can float in a tornado, and when she is calm she can restore her heart gauge. The emotional special skills have their own gauge, and only last so long (until the gauge is refilled).

Princess Peach is pretty in pink. There is nothing about her attire that is an enticement to lust. In fact that is one of the most important, and memorable aspects of this game. Princess Peach is a lady, and she is treated as such. When she floats down from higher areas, she holds her dress down. This kind of modesty is welcome in a lead female role in a video game. The graphics are bright, and colorful. The artwork is similar to the Yoshi side scrolling games, which this reviewer has always been fond of.

The sounds in this game are at the same high standard of the graphics. The music is nicely done, and works well in the game. The music is also nice and cheerful. In fact the music passes along the theme of hope in the few darker areas (Bowsers Villa for example).

Super Princess Peach has secrets hidden behind hidden secrets. In order to beat the game, all of the Toads need to be found. There are three Toad's per level, with five levels in eight worlds. There is also one Toad in each of the boss levels, and one boss level per world. Music notes, mini games, and puzzle pieces are also hidden all over the game. This reviewer feels that this game is worth the money.

Nintendo is known for creating side scrolling masterpieces. This game starts out easy for the first five worlds, but starts getting harder after that. The last levels in the eight world are downright challenging. The touch screen, and mic are also utilized nicely. Although blowing into the mic to shoot bubbles while underwater was a bit uncomfortable. The controls work perfectly, and the level designs are super. Super Princess Peach is a fun game.

This game can be taken a couple of different ways. God created men as the head of the household, and some will be bothered by a female character rescuing male characters. Others will be happy that girls (and women) have a respectable character to look up to in video games. Princess Peach jumps on the different cartoon characters, or swats them away with her umbrella. This umbrella used to be a boy, but was cursed. This reviewer did not feel threatened in his manhood to play a character dressed in a pink dress, but is aware that there are those it would bother. If some of the mentioned things bothered you, then by all means pass. Ultimately it is this reviewers opinion that this game is more suited for women, than it is for boys, or men.
