Super Collapse 3

Mumbo Jumbo has been making quite a name for themselves with Family Friendly Gaming. Games like Jewels of Sinai on the Personal Computer caught our eye, and now Super Collapse 3 on the Nintendo DS. This game is suited perfectly for this machine in the same way that legos fit together. The groupings of blocks march slowly upwards (or in some levels from the top and bottom). The player touches on a three or more blocks of the same color that are touching each others sides. Sounds easy enough right? Well it is, but Mumbo Jumbo threw in enough little variances to keep even the most veteran player on their toes.

I totally love the bright and bold colors used in Super Collapse 3. The artistic backgrounds also bring something to the table, and this coming from someone who is not always big on art. The blocks form together at a very fast frame rate. So fast in fact - I was not able to visually follow it very often. There are some casino style items that are the fun spots on the map. Once you realize what they are you can avoid them if gambling is a problem for you. I wanted to be sure to let everyone know in case that kind of addiction is a weakness.

The music is pleasant, and enhances the gaming experience in this Nintendo DS cartridge. The special effects sounds associated with making blocks vanish really got me pumped to try and find more matches. The action can be fast and furious at times, and the sounds reflect this. I did not hear any offensive sounds while playing Super Collapse 3.

Mumbo Jumbo put so many fantastic levels, and modes in Super Collapse 3 that you will get your money’s worth in my humble opinion. The story mode has players going from map to map unlocking levels, and completing specific tasks. Cooperative, Relapse, Survival, and Countdown are all multi-player modes included in Super Collapse 3.

The main stable of the game play in Super Collapse 3 is the bottom touch screen. Players touch the screen to make blocks go away. This is so simple, yet I wonder why no one has ever released a video game like this on the Nintendo DS before. The controls work flawlessly. My only complaint is certain screens require a button be pressed instead of touching the screen. This is a minor complaint, but one improvement I would like to see in any future sequels. I had a blast playing this game, and have to hand this game over to my wife because she is totally into Super Collapse 3.

The puzzle genre is a rather crowded field on the Nintendo DS. Super Collapse 3 is a good entry into this genre on this machine though. Some of the lessons that can be found is color, and pattern recognition. In addition matching, and projecting are taught. I would like to see a sequel to Super Collapse 3 on the Nintendo DS. The casino is not needed in a sequel, but a small tweak to a few of the menu screens would be most welcome. I also think that Mumbo Jumbo could flesh out a storyline attached to the puzzle action. This game should be safe for almost everyone in the family, with the exception of those with addiction issues. It was my pleasure to play and review this video game.
