Spongebob Creature from the Krusty Krab

SCORE: 82

Spongebob Creature from the Krusty Krab

Some people totally love SpongeBob, and some people totally hate SpongeBob. I am just confused by SpongeBob. It is like they try too hard to make him funny, and completely misses the boat. Perhaps SpongeBob is an acquired taste, and their brand of humor is not my cup of tea. I am also quite aware of how controversial SpongeBob is, and the firestorm of emails I will receive on all sides concerning any score given. The controls used for the Nintendo DS version of SpongeBob Creature from the Krusty Krab are very similar to the ones found in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2 March of the Minis. For those few not familiar with that game, drawing right makes the character walk right, drawing up makes the character jump up, obstacles are scratched (or tapped) off the screen and so forth. Enemies are tapped by the player (which stuns them), and then when the character touches them they leave the level.

Generally the graphics in SpongeBob Creature from the Krusty Krab are very bright and colorful. There are different kinds of levels as some are side scrolling, and some are overhead (editor: as certain screens on this page exhibit). Some of the artistic styles are bizarre at least to this reviewer. There are images of the green guy using a laser to destroy tanks, jet fighters, and helicopters.

The sounds in SpongeBob Creature from the Krusty Krab are actually really nice. I found the music to be well done, and very majestic. The special effects sounds were attempts at comical humor that missed more than it hit. The music, and sounds are all very crisp and clear. There are crushing sounds as movable items can be reset, but they did not reach the level of annoying.

The length and challenge of SpongeBob Creature from the Krusty Krab make it a viable purchase. The replay value is very light unless the player wants to replay a set of levels for some reason. There are three different end levels that the player can play based upon how many of specific in game items that are collected. Most players will be able to access all three game play end levels with only playing through the game one time. If you are into SpongeBob, or a unique game play style then this is a game that could certainly be worth your hard earned dollars.

The controls are the biggest selling point for SpongeBob Creature from the Krusty Krab on the Nintendo DS . These controls generally work well, with only a few times did things not work properly. It would have been nice if the microphone had been used somehow as well, but the level design more than makes up for that. The game is divided into quite a few different levels, and each level has a very nice number of sub-levels. The down side is a save can only be performed after all the sub-levels are completed. Thankfully all of these sub-levels are very short. Even though there is a lot of searching for switches, and collecting specific items, I found this game to be fun to play.

I really enjoyed the controls that THQ used in SpongeBob Creature from the Krusty Krab. The story telling is light concerning the eating of a hamburger before bed time, and having bad dreams because of it. FFF does not go either direction on this game.
