Roboblitz

Roboblitz on the Xbox 360 is one of those games whose time has come. Players play a robot who literally rolls all around. His main method of doing away with the bad guys is to stun them. This is not only more family friendly than other action adventure shooting games, it also adds some strategy. The stunned robots only stay down for a short time, and then the player has to watch their back. The game does also include picking up items (i.e. barrels), and bashing the little bad guy robots. The storyline follows the player having to do a lot of chores around the ship. This is a downloadable game from Xbox Live.

The graphics in Roboblitz will make graphic hounds drool. The shine, and polish is very apparent. The 3D level design work quite well, and the player is in control of the camera (a personal favorite of mine). There is some cartoon robot violence, but it is awesome that Naked Sky Entertainment included the stunning mechanics. The instructions are a little small on the screen, so when going through the tutorial get a little closer.

The sounds of Roboblitz are themed to the robotic/space environment quite well. The music is very soothing, and peaceful. I did find myself cringing when I ran into barrels, and the firing of the weapon can be startling at first. There was obviously some very intelligent design in the implementation of the sounds.

There are enough quests to complete to make this game worth your hard earned dollars. The game does fall on the short side, but it has such an unique environment. The unlockable abilities are interesting, and fun to learn how to use. Different difficulty modes are the main replay enticement to Roboblitz.

It took me a little while to get used to the controls. The player’s robot rolls around. I would occasionally find myself stuck in a spot or two until I jumped. Nothing too irritating, but it was present. Since the camera is controlled by the player, I found I was my own worst enemy at times by messing up my view. The designs of the levels is also very intelligent, and I had fun playing this innovative game.

It is my hope and prayer that more game developers follow the example of Roboblitz. We can have action adventure video games without bloodthirsty killing. I would love to see a sequel to this game, and look forward to it. The main lesson in Roboblitz is to stand up against evil, and doing so without compromising oneself. If you have an Xbox 360, or are considering one, then take a good look at Roboblitz.
