Ratatouille

THQ has had more successes with movie licenses than other developers to my knowledge. So I was expecting a lot from Ratatouille on the Nintendo Wii. Not all of my expectations were met, but then maybe I have them too high. This game is based on the Disney Pixar film from the summer of 2007. Players get to take on the role of Remy (a rat) in some fascinating 3D exploration, and cooking based mini games.

Ratatouille has some decent detail in many of the levels. The colors are generally nice, but sewer levels must be tolerated. There is cartoon violence as Remy can swing his tail in a form of an attack. There are also explosive items that are used in a demolition fashion. It is always interesting to see the graphics from a different vantage point (editor: meaning how large things look to a rat). The camera did give me a headache during the river levels.

The sounds in Ratatouille on the Nintendo Wii bring something to the game. I have not seen the movie (as of yet), but I am guessing a lot of the sound bytes come from the movie. The sounds are all very crisp and clear. I found the music to be cheerful, and it brought a little joy to my life.

There is some definite replay value to mini games like Salad Ballad. Sadly though the other levels in Ratatouille do not really bring much interest to be replayed for me at least. If you are really into the movie, then consider a purchase of this Wii game.

My understanding is Ratatouille is a game for children. Unfortunately some of the levels in this game are very difficult to complete. As an adult I struggled with completing certain levels. I am not sure if the controls were ported over from other versions or certain aspects were missed during the testing phase of this game.

Ratatouille teaches following what is right even when others do not understand. It also attacks the class system that is seen in the world in too many places. We can achieve all things through Christ, so do not listen to those who tell you that you can not do something. Follow God, and your heart.
