Ratatouille Food Frenzy

Ratatouille Food Frenzy on the Nintendo DS is a compilation of seven mini games based on the cooking aspect of the Disney Pixar film. A couple of these mini games are found in other versions of Ratatouille based video games. The seven mini games are Flip the Fish, Food Fling, Slice & Dice, Cooking With Remy, Dinner Rush, Mollusk Madness, and Soup Du Jour. All of these mini games would fall under the puzzle genre category, but a few are more action based than others. The touch screen of the Nintendo DS is needed for every single mini game. This ‘E’ for Everyone rated game is one meant for the younger members of the family.

The art style in Ratatouille Food Frenzy is definitely movie based in a cartoonish manner. The details are nowhere the level of the Disney Pixar movie though. THQ made sure Helixe included a smattering of colors. Some of them can be a little bland like the matching ingredients in a soup bowl mini game (editor: Soup Du Jour). The WMG did not find offensive images in Ratatouille Food Frenzy.

Ratatouille Food Frenzy has some neat little music that makes the WMG think about the French Quarter. The audio special effects fit the theme of this game remarkably well. All of the sounds found within Ratatouille Food Frenzy are family friendly, crisp, and clear.

If these seven mini games are up your alley, then Ratatouille Food Frenzy is going to have a lot of replay for you. If however these seven mini games are not your cup of tea, then you will not like this game. Ratatouille Food Frenzy reminds the WMG of classic video game compilations. Most of the things Family Friendly Gaming say about them will directly apply to this Nintendo DS cartridge. The WMG feels seven is not a lot of mini games, but on the other hand they are all family friendly.

Each of the mini games in Ratatouille Food Frenzy control perfectly with the touch controls of the bottom screen. There are a couple of mini games where the player needs to read the rules or that mini game will be lost. Soup Du Jour is the best example, because unless the player taps the fork (in the lower right hand corner) points will never be scored. Each of the mini games were fun for the WMG, but a little more variety was expected.

The WMG was a little surprised that THQ was releasing two different Nintendo DS video games based on the Ratatouille movie. Well at least in the same year. Cooking is a brilliant lesson to be learned, as well as helping others. The WMG found no moral, ethical, or offensive issues inside Ratatouille Food Frenzy. A sequel would be welcome if there were some more mini games. Your child may dig this Nintendo DS game.
