Picross DS
SCORE: 92
How does Nintendo keep doing it? They continue to innovate, and come up with fresh, new creative ideas. Sure those of us at Family Friendly Gaming can relate to coming up with so many awesome new ideas, but still Nintendo continues to impress me. Picross DS is like a crossword puzzle, but the blocks placed make up pictures. This is such a simple concept that has a lot of life to it. As one of the many non-violent gamers out there, I appreciate video games like this one. So lets: “Solve the puzzle, and see the picture.”
The visuals in Picross DS have a nice soft feel to them. There are different colors used in a decent way. The different items look a lot like the picture of the item when it is fully formed. The details are good in this reviewers humble opinion. I really like the artwork used, especially all of the wholesome images. I did not run across any offensive images while playing Picross DS.
The audio department of Picross DS is clean, crisp, and clear. There is no annoying sounds that I ran across while playing this game. The music did not stick with me though either. I did not hear any sounds that I would consider as offensive all of my hours of playing.
Picross DS is part of the Touch Generations label, and it fits quite nicely in that label. This is the kind of a video game that I find to be a lot of fun. There are plenty of different levels to play, along with creating your own levels. Nintendo also is including a mode to trade puzzles with friends, and downloading of new puzzle packs to your machine. On top of that you can race on puzzles against your friends to find out who is quicker. This is one of the few video games on the market that I feel is worth your dollars.
Nintendo included two different control schemes in Picross DS. Both of them work near perfectly. The touch screen, or the control pad are those two control schemes. It really helps bring in people who do not normally play video games by having such awesome choices. I had a lot of fun playing this game, and everyone I have showed it to completely loves it. The designs of the pictures on the different grid sizes denotes a definite intelligence.
Nintendo has done it yet
again with Picross DS. This game is safe for the entire family, fun, and
deserves sequels. I will be recommending this game to my pastor, and
telling friends about it. I do have one request for any sequels -
include some positive Christian imagery. The overwhelming majority of
Americans claim to believe in God, and be Christian. It only makes
perfect logical sense in terms of regionalizing, and marketing on the
American video game market.
