Petz Dogz 2

Dogz 2 is in the Petz line up, and very similar to Catz 2. Both of these games come from Ubisoft and have a storyline that revolves around an evil wolf who steals a magic hat, and goes on a rampage across an island. The puppy the player chooses goes on a quest to right this wrong, and eventually takes down the evil wolf. The magical element of Dogz 2 for the Playstation 2 (PS2) is totally fantasy based. There are plenty of cute little puppies to choose from, see, talk to, etc. There is a lot of talking on the screen, but it equates to barking in the sounds (more to come on that later).

What you see on the box cover of Dogz 2 is what you get. The puppies look realistic (editor: well as realistic as fantasy based some of the material gets). The player learns how to throw a rock and stun enemies. This skill is also used on the end boss in order to beat the game. The other animals in Dogz 2 do not look as realistic, and have a cartoonish look to them. The doggy accessories are pretty fun to play around with, but dressing up a dog seems strange to me.

If you like barking sounds, then you will be in canine heaven playing Dogz 2. There is plenty of puppy barks while the various characters are having a conversation. It seems a little strong at first, but either it gets toned down, or I became accustomed to it.

I beat Dogz 2 in under 10 hours, which is about the length of current generation action adventure video games. There is a lot of doing quests that involve sniffing, and then digging in the right place. This is a fun little game for kids, especially if they like dogs.

Ubisoft made sure the sniffing, and digging action is broken up just enough to make sure this game does not feel too monotonous. The controls work wonderfully, and the story is an awesome addition to this franchise. I had fun playing this game, even though I am not into the role playing genre kind of action.

If you were looking for a digital puppy simulator then you will be disappointed. Dogz 2 is an action adventure role playing game with very little violence. This kind of a concept for a video game is a good one. I would like to see more video games like this one on the market. With that said, if you get Dogz 2, then you probably will not want Catz 2 (editor: or visa versa). Dogz 2 is safe for the entire family, and one PS2 video game that I will be recommending to my spectacular pastor.
