Nancy Drew The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park

If you have ever enjoyed any of the Nancy Drew books, then you will enjoy Nancy Drew The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park. Nancy is on the case to solve a mystery that deepens as the player progresses through this Nintendo DS video game. The ESRB rated this game ‘E’ for Everyone with Mild Violence being the only descriptor. I could not find any violence in this game. There was some moments of peril, and Nancy breaks the law on more than one occasion. Majesco Entertainment made sure that Gorilla included some nice little mini games to befriend the suspects during interviews.

The artwork style of conversations is done like a comic book. In fact it is at that exact same quality. There are plenty of wonderful bright, and fantastic colors used in the palette of this game. The screens where Nancy Drew walks around are done in a 3D style but usually not that great in my opinion. Pixilation shows up in a lot of areas. The mini games look nice, and make me think of a lot of different puzzle games on the market. I looked for offensive images and found none.

Nancy Drew The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park has some very neat thematic music that goes along with this mystery. I found the music pleasant to listen to. There is some amazing concern showed by Nancy Drew’s boyfriend concerning her putting herself in harms way. At the end of the game Nancy makes it up to her boyfriend in a way that shows true commitment, and a desire to work on the relationship.

The mini games can be replayed if you so desire. I found them to be interesting but not engaging so much that I wanted to play them over and over again. The mystery is one that unfolds amazingly well, but not one I would play over again. If you are into Nancy Drew then this is a game to buy, if you are not but looking for a unique gaming experience consider checking it out.

The touch controls in the conversations works beautifully. The mini games all control well, and Nancy walks around in the 3D areas decently. I found this to be a fun game to play, and it is different from a lot of games on the market. There is definitely some intelligent design to the way this game plays.

Nancy Drew comments about helping the helpless a couple of times in this game, and that is an admirable lesson indeed. The player commits no violence, and works diligently to get to the bottom of a genuine mystery where a man has been falsely imprisoned. The downside of Nancy Drew The Deadly Secret of Olde World Park is she routinely breaks into places to find the evidence needed to get confessions from the guilty. I would love to see some sequels to this game.
