Mario Party 8

Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Wario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and plethora of Mushroom Kingdom favorites (and not so favorites) are back in Mario Party 8. This is the first Mario Party on the Nintendo Wii, and it has been tweaked for the system quite nicely. Mini games, party games, and the star searching on different boards is all present and accounted for. Four players can play at the same time for some real together time. Nintendo was also nice enough to give families the choice of how many turns to play a game, with the lowest being ten turns.

I really do not know why some people complain about the graphical power of the Nintendo Wii. I like how Mario Party 8 looks, with some nice crisp, clean, and clear graphics. The characters animate well, and there is a very nice usage of color in this game. There is some cartoon violence that would almost reach the level of a Tom and Jerry cartoon. There are also a couple of ghost characters that remind me of Casper the friendly ghost cartoons.

The music in Mario Party 8 is very festive, and fits each and every board quite well. The game also lets players know when a mini game is about to expire, and a little more speed is required if victory is to be attained. The special effects all fit with the Mario universe, and the announcer guy is most interesting.

If no one else in your family is willing to spend some quality time with you, then you can play this against three computer controlled characters. I love to play with other family members, and we have a blast together. I would say this game is worth your money.

The controls in Mario Party 8 work well, just make sure to check them before playing a mini game. There seems to be a lot of luck involved in who gets what, and where stars are on certain boards. There is some definitely intelligent design behind many of these boards.

I love games that bring the family together, and promote people spending time with one another. We are using this game to teach fair play, and good sportsmanship with our children. We are also letting them learn it is okay to lose, and how to handle that emotion. It was my personal pleasure to play this game, review it, and play some more. I would love to see a sequel to Mario Party 8, and it is my guess we will have one in a year or two. I would recommend this game to my pastor.
