MLB Power Pros

SCORE: 94

MLB Power Pros

When I first looked at MLB Power Pros on the Nintendo Wii I thought this was going to be an arcade style baseball game. The players have hands and feet, but no arms or legs (editor: like Rayman). The analog joystick is used to place the ball when pitching, and the bat when hitting. What I was not expecting is just how deep, and involved the stats are in this 2K Sports Nintendo Wii video game.

The visuals in this fantastic sports game are surprisingly realistic. I have been to Safeco Fields in Seattle, and the representation in this game is very accurate. The players bring a smile to my face, and add to the fun factor found in MLB Power Pros. The baseball cards that can be purchased after playing games look like blown up versions of the real thing. I was not able to find any images that I would judge as offensive.

I get quite an enjoyment out of announcers in sports video games. Sometimes we players can do so many different things at the same time that the announcer’s comments make little sense. 2K Sports did a very nice job with MLB Power Pros. The only complaint I have is when the announcer says the score, it sounds canned.

There are so few video games that I have an interest in replaying. MLB Power Pros is one of those rare games that I will be playing many months from now. I am enjoying unlocking all these different baseball cards. The depth of this game makes it a perfect purchase for sports gamers, and non-sports gamers alike.

The controls threw me at first. I was expecting a Wii Sports kind of action, but the game uses the control stick for ball, and bat placement. On my second swing I was over the control scheme and dug in my cleats. This control scheme works perfectly and shows that all features of the Nintendo Wii do not need to be used to produce a fun video game.

MLB Power Pros is one of those rare gems that comes along that emphasizes the truth about not judging a book by its cover. I really hope that 2K Sports produces some sequels to this game, and loved the little mood faces of the players. I have already recommending this Nintendo Wii video game (editor: also found on the Playstation 2) to my pastor. MLB Power Pros is safe for the entire family. It was my joy to play it.
