Luxor Pharaohs Challenge

Mumbo Jumbo is a video game publisher I am used to hearing about on the PC (Personal Computer). Having them port games to the Nintendo DS is quite a treat. Luxor Pharaoh’s Challenge is a marble matching puzzle game in the same vein as Magnetica. There is one major noticeable twist though - Egyptian mythology based. Fans of the recently canceled (editor: it had a run of ten years though) Stargate television show may find some enjoyment out of such a theme. For those not familiar with the style of this game let me explain; the player has a marble that is launched towards groupings of marbles rolling around. Make three or more of the same color for them to go away, and usually some form of a power up.

The graphical details in Luxor Pharaoh’s Challenge are scaled down from the PC. It is slightly noticeable, but then I do this all the time so that may have something to do with it. The different colors in the marbles fit, and the visual special effects are pretty cool.

The music in Luxor Pharaoh’s Challenge fits the Egyptian mythology theme quite nicely. I enjoyed it myself, but was not fond of some of the special effects sounds. I did not hear any offensive sounds in this DS game.

Luxor Pharaoh’s Challenge includes eighty-eight levels of marble matching fun. There are thirteen blessings the players can unlock.

The levels in Luxor Pharaoh’s Challenge get progressively harder. The different power ups do make things easier at times. The controls are a mixed bag though. The touch screen controls can cause problems, but the regular controls work perfectly. Part of me is glad I found a good way to control this game, and part of me is unhappy the touch controls are not right.

The Egyptian mythology is not as deep in the Nintendo DS version as other versions of Luxor Pharaoh’s Challenge. That is the only issue that may be of concern for some of our readers. I would like to see a sequel to this DS video game, especially if the touch controls are addressed.
