Hot Shots Tennis

I have enjoyed the Hot Shots franchise for quite some time now. Hot Shots Tennis on the Playstation 2 is another fine addition to this franchise. The amount of character that the different persona's have is simply amazing. On top of that they are all very friendly. There is one character who wears questionable attire, however most of the clothing is modest tennis attire. The retro American look is one of my personal favorites. The game is very good about letting the player know when they are fast, slow, or right on target with their swinging.

The graphical department in Hot Shots Tennis is very bright and colorful. The special effects in the graphics really add to the game, and never distract or deter. The default setting for replays is set a little high, but that is adjustable in the options. All of the characters have a real cartoonish look, and feel about them. They animate nicely as well. The courts look different, and fit their respective themes just as they should. Certain back-ground graphics look really neat, especially that waterfall.

The characters are so very friendly in their sound bytes in such a competitive environment. Hot Shots Tennis shows other video games that being civil, and polite is true maturity. Disappointment is expressed from different characters, but never to the level of poor sportsmanship. One of the females has a sultry voice, but nothing offensive.

Sony did a nice job of fleshing out a one player experience, and making a multiplayer experience work just as well. There are plenty of courts, and players to unlock in this game to keep most gamers busy for weeks. I would say this game is worth the money.

The one drawback to Hot Shots Tennis is it is a little easy. I found myself blowing through match after match for quite awhile. In some ways it was nice to not be struggling to learn the game, and have fun (winning is fun after all). The different courts, and weather conditions affect how the ball bounces, and that is something players must take into account. There are a lot of different controls, but they never get too confusing.

I really enjoy safe little games for the entire family. Hot Shots Tennis is a game that I am going to recommend to my pastor. There should be some sequels to this game coming from Sony, and they would be welcome indeed. This is the kind of a game that can bring families together for some good quality time. It was my joy to play this video game.
