Nyko's little Dual Charger AC for the Playstation 3 (PS3) allows for two PS3 Sixaxis controllers to be charged at the same time. This little unit features Collapsible Prongs, and two four foot USB to Mini USB insulated charging cables. The design is perfect for those who are traveling with their Playstation 3 controllers, and need a quick recharge from any AC power outlet. This frees the cord that comes with the Playstation 3.
The Dual Charger AC has a nice sleek black look to it. The cables are also black, with the exception of the silver on the connection. The cables connect directly into the backside of the wall portion of the unit. Nyko also intelligently put an image of a PS3 controller on the wall unit. I appreciate that, because I have entire drawers of cables that go to recharging units for all kinds of different machines. I am still not sure what some of them go to.
The wall portion of the Dual Charger AC until feels sturdy, and the cables are nice and thick. The one problem I have with the feel section is the length of these cables. Most of our power outlets are near the floor. That means the PS3 controller can not be too far away from the power outlet. I am thinking about houses and the problem with children being able to get their hands on the expensive Sixaxis PS3 controller. Unlike a docking station the Dual Charger AC has no protection for the controller.
In all of my testing the duration of the charge has been the same as if I charged it through the Playstation 3 directly. The design is sturdy and should last a very long time. Nyko has a good track record with Family Friendly Gaming and there is no reason to doubt this unit. The Dual Charger AC should last as long as you are using your Playstation 3. I have been praying about, and pondering the usefulness of the Dual
Charger AC. The controllers can be recharged through the Playstation 3.
This unit is designed for travel in mind though. But who is traveling
with their controllers for the PS3 only? Now if you need to recharge two
controllers and do not have the PS3 readily available then the Dual
Charger AC makes a lot of sense. Thank you for taking the time to read
